Prescription Eyewear – The Do’s and Don’ts

Do you know OSHA regulations on Prescription Eyewear?

“Under 1910.133(a)(3), Eye and face protection, the employer must ensure that each affected employee who wears prescription lenses while engaged in operations that involve eye hazards wears eye protection that incorporates the prescription in its design, or wears eye protection that can be worn over the prescription lenses without disturbing the proper position of the prescription lenses or the protective lenses…” -OSHA

What this means is that an employee who is working in an area where eye hazards are present, they MUST be wearing the proper eye protection. They can wear their current prescription eyewear, but they then must wear safety glasses over top. If they choose not to go that route, then the employer must provide prescription safety eyewear.
